Hi,
I have a '59 A40 as well. I believe that would also be the MKI. Hope to get it going again next year if i can get a few other projects out of the way. I have enough 1275cc motors and all kinds of upgrades laying around to use but refuse to upgrade this car. I really enjoy driving it and using it as original.

Do you know of any other then the A40 club of GB, any other good A40 websites out there? Farina or other websites fine. I am interested in all the Austin cars and love seeing new sites.

I had a '59 A40 Farina when I was a kid and had the most fun with it of the 140 cars I have owned in my lifetime. As I drive my MGB V8 Roadster daily, I owe my interest in British cars to that little red Austin. I have looked for one to restore in my part of the country with no success. Probably slightly better gas mileage than the MGB V8! Are there any still out there for sale???

A40 Farina was a neat little car, but why BMC felt the need to carry over the A35 mechanical package when they could have based it on the Minor, escapes me.

Especially given that the Minor formed the basis for the B-series engined Wolseley 1500 and Riley 1.5.

In other words BMC could have reaped the benefits of economies of scale with small to medium cars all based on the same package.

Instead BMC built A-series, and B-series engined cars using the running gear of the A35 (the A40, and the Nash Metropolitan), similarly sized A-series and B-series engined cars using different running gear (the Minor, Riley 1.5) and the Spridget - a two seater with A35 suspension and the Minor's steering.

Anyway, there's an interesting piece on an A40 Farina racer in "Retro Cars" magazine. Turns out that lever arm dampers aren't so bad, after all. And other bits of A40-lore I've picked up: Downton prepared a very quick one, and BMC toyed with the idea of a B-series engined race car to bury the Anglia on the track.

But the question I'd like to ask is: is it possible to equip the A40 with the Minor's steering rack?

Hi Guys, I have a 1959 MkI which we use regularly, plus a 1961 Frogeye (body in paint shop, hopefully back end June).

Some pics here for those who are interested. The A40 is called Doris (due to the registration plate - DRS)

I have the 59 MKI in Race trim here in Texas. That should make it about the rarest one in the US. Check out pictures on the A40 site

Brian,

Be sure to let me know if you decide to cull that C/GT from the herd.

Thanks,

Need a pair of shock absorber mounting brackets for the lower end of the telescopic shock absorbers for an A40 Farina Mk II

Does anyone have, or know where I might find them, please.

Going back through older threads tonight and noticed a couple things i have missed here for nearly a year!!

Brian from Texas, do you have a link to those pictures? I would love to see and hear more.

Allen, I did let the CGT go. It went to Oregon if memory serves. Letting it go freed up space and funds for the other projects.

The good news is the MGB V6 is on the road and ran well all summer, no issues. Drove it out to the British V8 meet in WI after only putting a few hundred test miles on it. I have additional plans for it next year but now that its running and driving, the Bugeye and A40 will get a little more time in them to make them drivers as well.

Everyone-

What happened to http://www.a40farinaclub.org/ ?

It currently states:

The A40 Farina Club Home Page

This site has been shutdown at the request of the Club Chairman
This Page Last Updated 28 Nov 2008
______________________________

Why? Did the club dissolve? Just to outdated to keep up or too much cost associated with the site for the club or???

Usually, someone leaves an email address or a reason or we'll be back or whatever.

Is there a listof individuals here in N. America who own A40s and other Austin/MG sedans? I would love to be able to have some type of contact list for parts and projects we get into, not only on my own car but also in the shop.

Gentlemen, may I please set your minds at rest regarding the fate of the A40 Farina Club? We are alive and well and living at our new (late last year) web address, which is www.a40farinaclub.co.uk where you will be warmly welcomed.
I apologise for the lack of forwarding information which our previous webmaster has seen fit not to publish, and for any anxiety this omission may have caused.
Do please feel free to contact me if you have any other concerns.

I have three Mk2 Farina A40s, I think that one will be broken or sold for spares, the other two will be finished. The green countryman is to run full Midget spec engine box and brakes, whilst the grey car will be std 1098.

Mark,

Save as much as you can of the body panels of that spare. Never know who may need the bits.
