MG MG Farina Magnette - Farina Mk IV for sale

I'm taking a bit of a chance here, as I don't think this car has been officially advertised yet. But I have stumbled across what appears to be an excellent Mk IV project car. I haven't seen it yet, but judging by the description and pictures I've seen: 1. The body shell has been completely repaired with new floors; perhaps other new panels also. It is currently in primer and in the pictures, it looks extremely straight and clean. 2. The engine has apparently been rebuilt and is back in the car, with the engine bay properly detailed. 3. The seats have been redone, and judging by the picture, they appear totally correct. I've seen pictures of the interior door panels and they look excellent also. What seems to remain is "some assembly required". The dash appears to be complete but will require refinishing. I'm not aware that there is any carpeting for it, nor do I know if all the bright metal pieces are there, or if so what condition they are in. The car is being sold for an estate. I really want it for myself, but since I already have one Mk IV, and we're preparing for a 700-mile move, The Navigator is not very receptive to the idea of redundant baggage at this point. At least not until the move and necessary remodelling on the new house have all been paid for! Contact me at my e-mail address if interested and I'll put you in contact with the seller. Mk IVs are VERY scarce on the west side of the pond. I only know of three - possibly four in North America. This one will be MUCH easier to finish than mine. Allen

Fellow Magnetteers... I'm thinking of buying it myself, but since it's currently residing nearly 300 miles away in Greenville SC, I don't have time to go look at it right now. If it's convenient for you, I'd be happy to pay for an examination and knowledgeable report on the car's condition. Any takers? Or can somebody to refer me to a knowledgeable MG Magnette guy in that area who might do it? I already have a '63 Mk IV, but the Mk IV in Greenville looks quite a bit better than mine and I'm thinking it might be easier to finish restoring it instead. Many thanks, Allen

This car is now on ebay. Check it out at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4644507735&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3ABCA%3AUS%3A11 The seller sent me several other pictures of the car which I'll be glad to share if interested. E-mail me at my address above. You'll notice I couldn't help myself and at this moment I'm shown as the high bidder, but I haven't met the reserve and I don't know what that would be. Go ahead - outbid me! FWIW, Allen

BTW, the seller says there are fewer than six of these in the US. With some help/encouragement from Mick Holehouse, I tried to start a registry of these cars back two or three years ago and found only THREE in all of North America. Two of them are for sale on this thread. The third one is mine. I've heard rumors of a fourth car - a leftover from the Goguen collection, but I don't know if it exists or not. C'mon folks, let's develop some four-door enthusiasm! I'll bet Dee would send the buyer a four-door button. Allen

Yes I did see it. Looked like a nice car, but it was a Mk III and I think the Mk IV is a better car. I think it was in Washington state. For me, it's closer to buy a car in the UK! Although by the end of June I'll be slightly west and a lot north of here, in the state of Michigan. I'm interested in this car and I'm interested in seeing the seller get a good price for the owner's widow. Don't know if I can help out, acquire the car, and move 700 miles all in the same month! ' Good to hear from you! Allen

Allen, Hi this is Hap, we spoke on the phone about Ed's Farina. It sold a few months back for like $2500, whoever got this one, got a good solid car with a new rebuilt drivetrain.

Hi Hap, Now I think that's a stunning bargain! I really hope the new owner makes an appearance on these BBS threads. He'll get lots of moral support and make some good friends. I've since seen an Austin Westminster six in Halifax Nova Scotia on Ebay. Now I REALLY coveted that car, but the reserve was WAY too high for me. I'll just have to wait - eventually I'll get my Mk IV restored... ' Good to hear from you Hap! ' Hope we can keep in touch. Cheers, Allen

If I'd known it woudl sell that cheap, I'd have scrapped the one got now. I was a little weirded out about the autographed seats however. My newest toy-to-be? 1967 Jaguar 420G. Its a BARGE. -John

John, This was not the car with the autographed seats. Last I heard that car was still for sale at $7500.
