MG MG Farina Magnette - Riley / MG trottle linkage
|

I am fitting a new manufactured pin to the bracket on the bulkhead & a bush to the moving arm which connects the link from the accelerator pedal to the spindle on the rear carburettor. On the part of the arm which connects to the link from the accelerator pedal are 2 holes, at the moment the link from the accelerator pedal is connected to the top hole, is this correct? or should it be connected to the bottom hole?

Dave, As you can see, there is not a lot of activity on the Farina board. There just aren't that many of us. We represent an acquired taste, right? Sorta like a really fine single malt. I'll look at my shop manual tomorrow and see if I can find any info that might help you. Holiday Cheers, Allen

| Dave, Here's an exploded diagram of the linkage from my Mk III Service Parts Manual. Click on "image" below. I don't know how clear the diagram is to you, but of the two levers shown at the bottom, the one on the left connects at it's lower end to the link on the far right behind the gaitor. At its top, it connects to the bell crank attached to the bulkhead. The rod on the lower right connects from the other side of the bell crank at its top, and connects to the throttle link on the carbs at its lower end. ' Hope this helps! Holiday Cheers, Allen

Depends on how quickly you want the Carbs to respond. The hole closer to the centre bush will give a quicker response per movement of right foot then the hole further away. I think this is what you inquirying about. Try both,- see which one suits your style of driving P J

Thanks, prefer the quicker response, but will experiment! It seems that from Allens photo the Mk 111 Magnette / Riel 4/68 had an inner hole and the Mk IV Magnette / Riley 4/72 had an inner & outer hole

Dave, Which model do you have? My diagram was from a Magnette MK III manual, but I have a MK IV sitting out in the barn and I can take a picture of its linkage. Cheers, Allen

Thanks Allen, a picture of the linkage would be appreciated,I have a 1967 Riley 4/72.

I got a look at my ;63 Magnette MK IV yesterday. The link from the accelerator pedal connects to the inner hole. On this left-hand-drive model, it doesn't look like the outer hole would work; the link would not then clear the steering column. ' Will try to get a picture today. On this unrestored car, it's probably safe to assume that this linkage has never been apart. Cheers, Allen

I am in Scotland & my Riley is a UK model, the link from the accelerator pedal connects to the inner hole, which is the same as on your Mk IV Magnette, this is probably the factory fitted position.
