MG MG Farina Magnette - Windscreen Rubbers
| Hi All Thought I would kick start the Farina forum with a new thread and see who is out there ! I bought a nice Mk4 Magnette a little over 18 months ago but not really been able to play with it. Its only done 7k miles from new and been garaged all its life - both screen rubbers were leaking - I have replaced the rear screen rubber with an original one piece item to take the chrome trims. They are a real bugger to do I must say - took me two goes to seal the rubber to the body and the glass to the rubber but its ok now. Its very difficult to get the chrome trims in - well quite easy - but the difficult part is getting them to line up etc and be flush to the surround. Its ok but not perfect - anybody done this and got any tips to pass on. The front screen I decided to remove the chrome trim and seal the rubber/body and rubber/glass in situ - its worked fine and the chrome trim is sitting better then the back one but again not exactly correct. One think I did use was Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure - it creeps into an cracks and stops the leak - excellent stuff. Picture enclosed of Molly the Magnette Regards to all Gobby

| That looks mint where did you find that? Ive got a Magnette the same colour but its nowhere as nice as that. Have you seen the other farina forum? There is a link to it from the Cambridge and Oxford owners club, its well worth a look. Stewart http://www.co-oc.org/welcome.html |

| Hi Stewart Its a Brighton car with its original reg - owned by a husband and wife until they both passed away - been garaged all its life but some foreign builders bounced it out of the garage when the house sold and put a small crease in the nearside door. I sent an email ages ago asking to joing the other forum but never got a reply - maybe I should try again. Now I have fixed the screens and they dont leak I have a new pale blue carpet set to go in. The only other trouble I have is with the carbs - I have stripped and rebuilt them with new jets as the old ones had perished but it does not want to start without placing my hand over the plenum with the air cleaner off - I wondered if the mixture needs adjusting - maybe I tweaked it down too much - I used a gunsons CO2 meter but perhaps I need to look at it again - think it was about 3.5% when I did it. | Gobby, I don't have anything relevant to say, but since you're testing the forum, the least I can do is send you our greetings. I only wish my Smoke Gray Mk IV looked one-tenth as good as yours! Someday...(sigh)... Allen |
